Poltergeist Curse and Rumors behind the Terrifying Deaths

The Poltergeist movie is based on a young family terrorized by ghosts. From a swimming pool full of ghosts, demons living in the children’s closet to a young child communicating with ghosts on TV set, the movie has horrific scenes capable of scaring everyone watching.

The Freeling family learns that their home was built on a Native American burial ground after the ghosts abduct their youngest daughter. They are now faced with the tough situation and have to join forces and rescue her. As the trailer and the reviews behind the movie would get everyone running to the cinema to watch it, there are rumors surrounding the mysterious deaths of several cast members. Four of the cast members died before and after the release of the successful movie.

It started with the untimely death of Dominique Dunne who casted as Dana Freeling, the older sister. The actress suffered an untimely death after she was chocked by her ex boyfriend John Sweeney after she refused to take him back.

The most shocking death that left the funs in great sorrow was that of Heather O’Rourke (Carol Anne Freeling). At the age of 12, nobody could think such a young girl’s life can just end unexpectedly. The youngster acted on the first release of Poltergeist when she was just six years. The actress captured the audience attention by her stunning look and good performance. However, six years later, she felt ill with symptoms associated with flu. The next day she collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest and died on operating table in a desperate attempt to correct a bowel obstruction.

The other deaths, though expected, also fuel the curse rumor behind the movie. Kane, who played the evil spirit on the first Poltergeist, died a year before the release of the movie in 1985 after a serious battle with stomach cancer. The other death was that of Taylor (Will Sampson); the good spirit, who died in 1987 a year after the release of the Poltergeist II of the film. He heard undergone a lung transplant and his death was associated to pre-operative malnutrition and post-operative kidney failure.

The curses surrounding the mysterious deaths had been said to have resulted from directors using real skeletons to save money since plastic ones were so expensive. Another curse is associated with the real medicine man Will Sampson who is said to have performed an authentic exorcism one night after they finished shooting.

Following the death of these several members, rumors had since filled the air that all the cast members in the movie had since died. This is of course an exaggerated version of the curse as many of the members are still alive. The Poltergeist movie continues to hit in the horror movie industry despite the rumors and is one of the best movie one can ever watch.
