Tips On Buying Desktop Computer

In recent years, the demand for desktop computers has declined primarily because of the growth of the laptop market. While laptops are preferred by most people because of its aesthetics, portability and utility for emergencies, desktop computers still outmatch laptop computers when it comes to memory and performance.

The major advantage of a desktop computer is its seemed disadvantage: size. Because of a desktop computer's size, you get more of everything including more connection ports, more space and larger graphics card, bigger fans for cooling, among many others, while saving on a lot of money because desktop computers now are cheaper in cost.

There are few things to take into consideration in buying a desktop computer:

Know the OS (Operating System)

Whether your operating system is Windows, OS X, and Linux, each of these have their pros and cons. Windows is the most popular and most used operating system in the market. OS X is the operating system designed for Apple products. However, Microsoft and OS X can be used interchangeably depending on the compatibility of your desktop device. Linux programs, on the other hand, can be downloaded for free and is used as a wide alternative to Windows.

Check The Processor

The preferred processor is Intel Core i5-3 series because of its updates and good performance. You should be mindful of this because this is usually the most expensive part of the PC.

RAM (Radom Access Memory)

Most desktop computers have a memory space of 6 to 8 GB and a lack of this RAM will slow down your computer's memory. There are several memory spaces available and you should choose a minimum of 4 GB.

Check Connections And Ports

You should purchase a desktop which has connections to USB 3.0 and HDMI connection ports. Most computers have many slots for these.

Study The Different Brands

Before you make your purchase, get acquainted with computer products and its features by visiting the computer maker's website. You may also compare and contrast different products.

Know The Different Desktop Categories Depending On Your Need

There are three categories of desktop PCs depending on your needs: entry level, mid-range and high-end desktop computers. Entry level computers is cheap and can just do basic functions and activities such as internet browsing, sending emails, and using office productivity software such as Microsoft Office. Mid-range computers have a higher processing speed compared to an entry level PC and can do things like playing games and installing software but not heavy-function high-end programs such as editing and fast graphics processing.

If you need high performance desktop computers, you should purchase high-end computers, although they do not come in cheap. You can do video editing, playing more games and graphics designing.

While desktop computers are generally cheaper, it is still ideal to check on the quality of the product that you are going to purchase. In other cases, it might cause you more money if the product is defective or is missing some important accessories. What is important is to arm yourselves with information and ample knowledge when going to stores to purchase a desktop PC.

SSD VS HDD - WHAT TO PICK?

What kind of storage would you prefer If you are interested in buying a laptop or desktop? This is one of the most usual confusion that arise while buying a PC. What to choose : SSD or HDD? If you still find trouble, then here is a list of details you would like to know.

What is SSD and HDD?

Basically, they are both non-volatile devices that can store data even If your PC cycles between on and off state. SSD stores the data in the flash memory chips and therefore It can be retained even If there is no power. It does not have any actual disc or motor. The memory cells perform more or less like a MOSFET. It also has a great improvement in read function.

HDD store data in one or more rotating disc (platters). The platters are arranged with magnetic head which helps in reading and writing data. The HDD basically has four parts : track, cylinder, sector and platter. The track is a circular pattern on the disc on which information is recorded. But still, you will be perhaps more interested to know which is better. What are Its advantages and disadvantages? It is more better to evaluate them on the following properties.

Capacity and storage ability

If you intend to keep a lot of stuff in your PC, then you would be more happy with HDD . 500 GB is considered to be Its base. This also helps in booting in less than a minute while SSD takes less than 20 seconds. The only factor that restricts the use of SSD when It comes to capacity is Its cost. Its cost is more than the counterpart, but off course quality come up with cost.

Reliability

SSD are more reliable than HDD. The external influences may influence the HDD structure resulting in a data loss. Here, I would bet for SSD as the flash memory is not much affected by external factors. Noise level is also low for SSD unlike HDD.

Budget and availability

If you would like to keep your budget low, then HDD are more preferable. Also , they are more available in the market. This is most important advantage of HDD over SSD.

Speed

When It comes to speed and ease, again SSD has preference over HDD and is also quite easy to handle.

Power supply

SSD often needs to be boosted as It draws less power whereas HDD uses more battery . HDD draws 6-8 watts, so It is preferable.

Finally, which is better? Come on, Its completely up to your needs. But still, I would give more recommendation to SSD as It beats Its counterpart in almost all the cases other than price. So before going for your PC, It is better to have a round check. To put It simply, HDD are preferable more to average customers whereas SSD finds Its relevance more in higher functions.
