Unbeatable speed - Supercomputer

In this modern world of technology and competition it is an important requirement that every work is done in time. Speed is everyone’s requirement these days, we all want our requests to be completed effectively and in time. Computer has eliminated human effort in almost every field of life, increased accuracy of work, lesser time required is one of the best positives of a computer. One of the most important requirement these days is increased speeds of processing. Supercomputers are the solution to this requirement, it is a type of computer which is known for its high level of computer processing which is more than the general purpose computers. Its speed is measured in FLOPS which stands for floating operation per second. A Supercomputer can perform quadrillions of floating point operations per second. It is used in scientific areas where advanced calculations are required.

History of Supercomputers

Since the evolution of computers various efforts are always made so that it can be made better than before. The history of supercomputers date back to 20th century, they were introduced in 1960s by Seymour Cray at control data corporation. Till then many supercomputers used less number of processors but by the end of 20th century various computers with massive parallel processors came into existence which changed the meaning of supercomputers completely. Supercomputers play an important role in the field of research and technology, it is used in various fields like quantum mechanics, weather forecasting, climate researches, macromolecular modelling and much more.

Working

A Supercomputer's approach towards solving a problem is quite unique. There are two possible ways for any Supercomputer to function. Either it works in packets which means small tasks are assigned to small processors and then those tasks are submitted to a centralized server. Other approach is much more like a computer mesh when all processors are collectively involved in solving a problem rather than specifying small tasks to each processor. These days multi-core processors combined with centralization of computers are quite popular.

Supercomputer is an example of the capabilities of a human mind. Computers have helped us throughout the course of history for carrying out complex calculations, researches both accurately and effectively. Supercomputers play an important role in various scientific fields where even more complex calculations are need to be processed accurately and in lesser time. Various new technologies have helped in enhancing their performance, accuracy and efficiency. Supercomputing is a revolution in the technology arena and its scope has increased lately. Since their invention supercomputers have undergone various remodeling phases which included both better hardware and software architecture. Since a human mind is a unique creation, it can be inarguably said the future of technology is quite.

Quantum Computing

Quantum computing entails theoretical studies of computing systems. The procedure involves direct application of quantum-computing phenomena, such as entanglement and superposition, to perform operations on data. It is important to note that quantum computers vary from binary electronic computers due to their transistors. Common digital computers require data to be coded into binary digits while quantum computation utilizes quantum bits. Development of authentic quantum machines is still in infancy level, experiments carried out executed minimal number of quantum bits. Large-scale quantum computer can theoretically be capable to resolve certain problems faster than classical computers. Additionally, quantum computers might be able to efficiently resolve problems that cannot be feasible on classical computers.

Quantum algorithms are regularly probabilistic, in that they offer the correct resolution only with a certain identified probability. For example, the term non-deterministic computing must not be applied in any circumstance to mean probabilistic, because the term non-deterministic has a diverse of meaning in computer science.Currently, quantum Information Science is an evolving field with the prospective to cause innovative advancement in areas of science and engineering; involving communication, computation, precision dimension, and essential quantum science. The pioneers of this technology began by thinking about the consequences of merging quantum mechanics with the conventional Turing computing machine.

Therefore, quantum information science sector of science and technology, combines disciplines of mathematics, engineering, physical science, and computer science. Its aim is to recognize how certain essential laws of quantum mechanics discovered in the past can be harnessed to theatrically improve the transmission, acquisition, and information processing. Scientific opportunities offered by quantum information science are drawing the interest of the developing community of technologist and scientists. By applying the technology, scientists are promoting exceptional interactions between traditional disciplinary boundaries. Advances in quantum computing will become gradually critical to national effectiveness in information technology during the period of the coming century.

The information technology development of the past decades has been improved by steady developments in the reduction of electronic circuit board on silicon chips; allowing performance to increase twice the previous operation capability. Scientists, assert that in fewer than twenty years, this performance capability will reach atomic magnitudes, necessitating a new prototype if progress is to continue. The emerging quantum computing discipline is providing insightful new perceptions into fundamental problems involving both physical science and computing. The successful of this new discipline in the next century may direct the computer system to revolutionary improvements in technology and in people understanding of the physical universe.
